“”One of these days, ?uestlove will write a memoir, and it will be incredible.” Here it is two years later, and that memoir, Mo’ Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove, has arrived.” (via Paper Trail: Mo’ Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove | Features | Pitchfork)
If you’ve ever read his celebrity stories then you know how dope this book has the potential to be. We’ll just have to wait till later on this month to find out if he made good on his potential.

This is not quite what you might expect from Lianne. Watch out for that  change of pace after the first minute or so…

To be clear, the re-orchestrated instrumentals on Bizarre Tribe were sourced from the original jazz, soul, and funk recordings SAMPLED by ATCQ, allowing Amerigo to create his own, distinct production within a similar framework. Given the brief and limited use of ATCQ material on Bizarre Tribe (around 2 minutes of material out of a 55 minute album), and the method by which our reinterpretations are created, it is clear that Amerigo’s effort is protected under the fair use exception of copyright infringement

Bizarre Tribe: Access Denied » Bizarre Tribe: Access Denied (An Open Letter to Sony)

Have you heard? Sony served up a cease and desist for Bizarre Tribe. If you don’t know, Bizarre Tribe a beautiful mashup of Tribe and Pharcyde material crafted by Gummy Soul’s Amerigo Gazaway. More precisely: “Utilizing the original Jazz, Soul and Funkrecordings sampled throughout A Tribe Called Quest’s extensive catalogue, Gazaway recreates classic productions – pairing his reinterpreted instrumentals with select vocals from West Coast “golden era” favorites, The Pharcyde.”

In this litigious age, it comes as no surprise that Sony pulled the trigger on a takedown notice, and general rule of thumb these days seems to be that if you’re wary enough to wonder whether your project is protected by fair use, you’re probably already liable for some charge of infringement. Yet another reminder of that sobering thought: the hip-hop I grew up with simply couldn’t exist in the current day.

It’s the sadface invasion…

Dego of 4Hero finally kickstarts his Soundcloud account after setting it up six years ago. A nice mixture of tunes although… the transition between tracks isn’t always the smoothest but then again that may be deliberate on his part (?). Give it a spin and form your own opinion.

Bare by Noyce

After hearing this contemplative down-tempo track, you’re gonna wanna download this Cosmic Compilations album, a bunch of reworkings of Alice Coltrane tracks by modern producers (no big names). Worth checking out, you could do a lot worse.
